Help to /*HACK THE CODE*/ with Intel

Hack StoryAs many of you will know I am a massive hackathon fan, and regularly attend events.  When I received an email from Intel, talking about their really unique idea to help crowd source a version 2 for an app called Developer Story, I really had to share it.  I hope you find it, as intriguing and enjoyable an idea as I do.

/*HACK THE CODE*/’s first version has just been released with an open invitation to developers to (you guessed it) hack the code and improve the app. Any approved changes will be incorporated into the 2nd version, which is due out for the end of the year. Approving and judging the submissions will be a panel of superstar Intel developers, who will offer their feedback on any submissions.

Developers who make the cut for the 2nd version will of course be getting the credit for their involvement. This is a chance to take the app in whichever direction you want to, whether that is making levels harder or improving the design- the doors are wide open for your input.

Suffice to say for a young developer, being recognised in the credits for an official Intel app will give plenty of kudos and will be an impressive feature to add to the CV.

The app has been built upon two gaming platforms:  Panda.js and Pixi.js. These platforms provide the developer with flexibility as well as have a large and helpful community on hand to answer any questions.

It’s a really unique app aimed at developers, and it uses plenty of in-jokes and reference points that this community will recognise.

Take a look at the trailer below:

Take on the challenge

If you want to be in with the chance of developing the app and helping get to version 2.0, all you need to do is download the code from GitHub. Have a play around with it,  before you graft away and make your amazing improvements.

If you think you can do a better job on Dev Story, or if you just want the chance to get some feedback from professional Intel developers, just head over to the Intel developer zone for a chance to have your name shining in the credits.
